Liposuction, as it is commonly known, is not a slimming operation, it is a procedure in which the regional fat accumulations in the body are absorbed with the help of a special vacuum or injector, the fat is removed from the body and the remaining existing fat cells are reduced and the body contour is corrected. With the liposuction process, not only the fat in the body is burned, but also the tightening process is performed on that area. The classical liposuction method, which is one of the fat removal operations, has now started to be replaced by Vaser Liposuction, which provides more technological, safe, comfortable and more successful results for the patient. In the Vaserliposuction method, satisfactory results are obtained in the reduction of regional lubrication with thin cannulas.
Before the liposuction surgery, as Üsküdar Private Hürrem Sultan Hospital, we provide a meeting with our patient and plastic surgeon where all the details will be discussed. In this meeting, our surgeon first listens to the expectations and wishes of our patient, and then the patient is examined. If our patient’s suitability for the procedure is determined, a planning is made for the liposuction procedure together. What is especially emphasized in this preliminary interview is that the Liposuction method is not a weight loss surgery.
Just before the operation, the drawings of the areas where liposuction will be applied are made. Liposuction surgery is performed under the control of an anesthesiologist with a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. Only local anesthesia can be used in limited small areas. The operation takes an average of 1 to 5 hours, depending on the width of the area where the operation will be performed. Sometimes special thin pipes (drains) are placed in these areas during the surgery by making use of the cannula holes. These drains allow the serum accumulated in the body to be discharged.
The post-operative period of liposuction is generally comfortable. Pain is minimally felt and can be relieved with pain medication. At the end of the operation, the patient is dressed in a special corset. After the operation, dressing is applied to the injured areas of the patient. The corset is used between 4 and 6 weeks. There may be color changes in the areas where fat is removed by liposuction, which can be said to be purplish. Swelling, tingling and burning sensations may occur. These complaints disappear spontaneously from the 3rd week after the operation. The holes of the cannulas used when entering the liposuction area are between 2-4 mm. Although the scars formed after liposuction surgery vary according to the characteristics of our patient’s skin, they become indistinct within 2 to 6 months. Since the surgical scars will remain indistinct, they can be ignored.
